What do I have to do to adopt a family?

Click here to sign up to adopt a family. You’ll then be matched with and provided a profile of your adopted family. The profile includes information about each member of your adopted family including clothing sizes and any special wants or needs. These are just suggestions and we leave it up to you to decide what gifts you get for your family.

How will I know what to buy for my family?

You will receive a profile of your family that includes the name, gender, age and clothing and shoe size and any special requests for each member of your family. The maximum family size is six people.

Can I deliver the gifts myself?

No. To protect the confidentiality of the adopted families, the Christmas Bureau handles the distribution of the gifts on your behalf.

Should the gifts be wrapped?

Yes. To give children and their families the best Christmas experience possible, we recommend wrapping your gifts.

How should I mark my boxes?

Your adopted family will be assigned a number, and we ask that you mark each box with your adopted family's number in large numerals on each of your boxes. We also ask that you number the boxes, e.g., 1 of 4, 2 of 4, etc. to assist us in tracking the boxes and ensuring all get to their intended families.

Are my contributions tax deductible?

The Carlsbad Christmas Bureau Adopt-A-Family Project is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization as designated by the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions to the Christmas Bureau may be tax deductible. Please consult your tax consultant to determine your tax deduction. Our Federal Tax ID number is 33-0204560.

What percentage of monetary donations goes to needy families?

The Christmas Bureau is an all-volunteer organization, and those volunteering do not receive remuneration. We do not pay for an office, and we have no assets. A small amount of donations are used for administrative costs, such as mailing, stationery, phones, etc.
